Torquay United came away from their first preseason fixture with a hard-earned victory against a well-drilled and physically strong Alphington side.
Torquay United 2 - 1 Alphington
Date: Tue 7th Aug 2018
Time: 19:00
Attn: 0
Location:
Tuesday 7th August, 7.00pm kick off at Seale Hayne.

Torquay United Ladies 2-1 Alphington Ladies

Team - Trialist, N. Allen, Trialist, M. Strong, Trialist, K. Dickson, L. Swaine, Trialist, C. Dymond, D. Wyatt (C) 2 & Trialist.
Subs - K. Phillips, Trialist & Trialist.

Captain for the evening Danni Wyatt gave Torquay the lead with a well-placed finish after half an hour. Alphington equalised after some confusion in the home side’s defence just after half time, before Wyatt put Torquay back into the lead with a speculative effort from fully 30 yards out. Some last ditch defending from the home side’s defence saw Torquay hold out for a morale boosting victory. Final score, 2-1.

There were notable performances from the various trialists, Megan Strong in defence and double goal scorer Danni Wyatt. Tonight’s player of the match accolade is jointly awarded to our Trialist goalkeeper, for her superb display of handling and distribution, and young Kasey Dickson for her all-action display, non-stop running and pressing from the front.

Manager Jamie McInnes:

“I am absolutely delighted this evening for the girls who have worked so hard during preseason, with all the uncertainty surrounding the team. It’s taken an incredible amount of hard work from a small but dedicated group of people to get the team out on the pitch tonight and a win is a great confidence boost for all concerned. There is a long, long way to go and lots of hard work still needed but the future is definitely looking positive! I’d like to thank Alphington for providing a tough opposition tonight and also our trialist and guest players for helping us out. I’d also like to give a special mention to Nick, Justin and Nathan for all believing in the project and supporting myself and the girls moving forwards - it truly is a team effort. Finally, a thank you to Aaron for his input on the psychological side of the game this evening (more news to follow on this exciting appointment...).”
